The Saudi energy company “ACWA Power” announced the start of commercial operation of the Hassyan energy production complex located in Dubai, after the addition of the last energy production unit, bringing the production capacity of the complex to 2,400 megawatts, according to a disclosure from the company to the Saudi Stock Exchange on Sunday.
The Hassyan Power Generation Complex project is one of the largest power stations in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. It runs on natural gas and consists of 4 power production units, each with a capacity of 600 megawatts, according to the ACWA Power website.
ACWA Power’s share in the project is 26.95%, while the Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA) holds a 51% share.
ACWA Power said, in a disclosure on Sunday, that it had received from DEWA on Thursday the commercial operation certificate for the project, expecting that the financial impact of operating the complex at its full production capacity will appear starting in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Within the framework of the “Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050” and the “Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050”, the Emirate of Dubai seeks to diversify the energy mix to provide 100% of energy production capacity from clean energy sources by the year 2050, according to the DEWA website.
