Pediatrician Consultant Gastro Hepatology RSCM FKUI Prof. Hanifah Aswari said that acute hepatitis with severe symptoms is transmitted through the respiratory and digestive tracts.
“Initial suspicions were caused by Adenovirus, SARS CoV-2, ABV virus and others. The virus mainly attacks the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract,” said Hanifah, citing BetweenThursday (5/5/2022).
Until now, the cause of acute hepatitis is unknown. The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) is still conducting an epidemiological investigation.
While waiting for the results of the investigation, Hanifah advised parents to remain vigilant, especially for those who have children under the age of 16.
Several things can be done to prevent acute hepatitis is to maintain personal and environmental hygiene. Hanifah detailed the steps to prevent acute hepatitis which can be transmitted from the digestive tract, including:
- Maintain cleanliness by washing your hands with soap.
- Make sure the food or drink consumed is cooked.
- Do not share eating utensils with other people.
- Avoid contact of children with sick people.
Meanwhile, to prevent acute hepatitis from being transmitted through the respiratory tract, Hanifah suggested implementing health protocols, including:
- Wear a mask.
- Keep a distance.
- Reduced mobility.
