Sien Diels comes from Turnhout, but has lived in the Leuven region for years. She graduated in drama at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels in 1969, and afterwards was active at the Mechels Miniature Theater, and also freelance at Theater Malpertuis.
In the mid 1970s, Diels made the switch to television. And so she has conquered a place in the collective memory: as a fixed value in the children’s series “Sesame Street”.
The program was initially a Belgian-Dutch co-production, so the makers also wanted a Flemish actor in the main cast. And so, from 1976 to 2012, Sien Diels became Sien of “Sesame Street”: the mother figure for the dolls in the series, with its own shop where the residents of Sesame Street did their shopping.
