Actress Sally Kellerman, the head nurse in the movie MASH, has died

American actress Sally Kellerman, who became famous for her role as Major Margaret Houlihan in Robert Altman’s MASH, died on Thursday, February 24 at the age of 84 in Los Angeles. The Hollywood Reporter server informed about it, the death was also confirmed by the actress’s spokesman Alan Eichler.

The tall blonde made the most of the role of military chief nurse Houlihanová, nicknamed Šťabajzna, in the iconic black comedy MASH from 1970. It earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, but did not win the award. Kellerman, a native of California, later collaborated with director Altman on the films Player and Pret-A-Porter and others.

Kellerman, who has also been a singer and released two albums, has also appeared in television series such as Star Trek (1966) and Columbo (1998) over the course of her long acting career. After a brief marriage to screenwriter Rick Edelstein, she married film producer Jonathan D. Krane (1952-2016) in 1980, with whom she adopted two children.
