Until now, those had been owned by Witherspoon, her husband Jim Toth and business partner Seth Rodsky.

Witherspoon founded Hello Sunshine in 2016. The company is engaged in stories aimed at women, including producing the series Big Little Lies for HBO. The Morning Show from Apple TV+ also comes from Hello Sunshine.

Witherspoon plays a leading role in both series. She now calls the acquisition “an important step because it shows that stories matter for women.” The Oscar winner will remain involved with Hello Sunshine after the deal and will retain part of the shares.

According to experts, Blackstone is trying to build up a kind of media and entertainment portfolio. For example, the investor has also bought real estate that is used for making movies and TV shows.

On Monday it was also announced that Blackstone wants to build a new film studio north of London. That project is being done together with the American studio operator Hudson Pacific. Nearly $1 billion is being earmarked for the studio.
