Actress Naomi Ackie will be Whitney Houston in the singer’s “biopic”

Los Angeles (USA), (EFE) .- British actress Naomi Ackie will play Whitney Houston in a musical film that will narrate the life of the singer entitled “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and will direct Stella Meghie.

The director confirmed the signing of the actress, known for participating in “Star Wars- The Rise of Skywalker” (2019), after the specialized newspaper The Hollywood Reporter advanced that the negotiations were about to close.

“We spent most of the past year in an exhaustive search for an actress who could play Whitney Houston,” Meghie said in a statement. “Naomi Ackie impressed us at every stage of the process. I was moved by his ability to represent the stage presence of a global icon and at the same time bring humanity into his intimate life, “he said. The film will not be released until the end of 2022.

Music producer Clive Davis has been responsible for bringing Houston’s life to Hollywood along with The Whitney Houston State (the fund that manages the late artist’s estate).

The producers of the project affirmed when they presented what numerous songs of the diva will use and that the story will be “a happy, emotional and heartbreaking celebration of the life and career of the best pop and R&B vocalist in history.”

Houston passed away in February 2012 at age 48 after a life in which drugs and a tumultuous marriage plunged her career. He was one of the most popular voices of the 1980s and 1990s and established himself as an international star thanks to the song “I Will Always Love You” that he performed for the film “The Bodyguard” (1992), a film in which he starred alongside Kevin Costner and that marked his film debut.

His death took place at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles (California), by accidental drowning. Houston was found submerged in a bathtub in a room, an event directly related to the use of narcotics by the singer.
