The artist celebrates Mervat Amin On her 77th birthday today, Friday, November 24, as she was born on this day in 1946 in Minya Governorate to an Egyptian father and an English mother. She graduated from the Faculty of Arts, English Department at Ain Shams University, and entered art by chance, as one of her relatives offered her to go with him. She went to Jalal’s studio to see filmmaking up close, and there she saw Rushdi Abaza, Mahmoud El-Meligy, and Ahmed Ramzy.

Her artistic career began when she was at university, where she performed theatrical roles, and among the plays she participated in at that time were “Ya Tali al-Shajara” and‎Airport of Love, but her beginning in cinema was through the movie “Confused Souls” with the artist Ahmed Mazhar in 1968, which opened the gateway to fame for her. She rose to stardom in the movie “My Father is on the Tree” in 1969, in which she played the starring role opposite the brown nightingale Abdel Halim Hafez, and continued her career that exceeded 120 films and a number of series.

Mervat Amin was married 6 times, the first of which was to the Syrian singer Muwafaq Bahjat in 1970, then she married the guitarist Omar Khorshit in 1972 and divorced him after only one year. Then she married a third time to the businessman Mustafa Al-Sayyed, and the divorce happened quickly. As for her longest marriage, She was the fourth to the artist Hussein Fahmy in 1974, and she gave birth to their only daughter, Minna Allah. The marriage lasted 14 years, after which she married twice to Hussein Al-Qala and then the businessman Mustafa Al-Balidi.
