Ally won an Emmy for her role as a bar manager on the popular TV series Cheers.
The actress has also appeared in the films ˜Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan’, ˜Drop Dead Gorgeous’ and the ˜Look Who’s Talking’ series.
The family’s statement did not say what type of cancer he had, but said it was “only recently” discovered.
“She was surrounded by family and fought with all her might, leaving us hopeful of her endless joy in life and all future adventures,” the family said in a statement.
“As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother,” said her son William Stevenson, 30, and daughter Lily, 28.
John Travolta, who starred with him in the series ‘Look Who’s Talking’, also expressed his condolences.
“Kirsty had one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. Love you Kirsty,” she captioned alongside a photo of herself.
“I know we will meet again.”
The actress was married twice, she was the mother of two grown sons.
On January 12, the actress would have turned 72 years old.
