Actress Kangana wants to make Bilkis Banu’s story into a movie. This was revealed in response to a question from a fan on X. He added that the script is ready but major OTT platforms are not ready to screen the film.

‘Dear Kangana and team members, your passion for women empowerment is inspiring. Are you interested in making a strong film on Bilquis Banu? Will you make a film for Bilkis? At least in the name of humanity’ was the question of X user.

‘I want to do that story. The script has been prepared after three years of research. But major OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon are not ready to take the film. That said, movies with political themes have their own set of rules. As I am a BJP supporter, I was told that I am not interested in cooperating with Jio Cinema. Sea is gearing up for a merger. Now what option do I have- Kangana replied.

The Supreme Court had canceled the Gujarat government’s decision to release the accused in the Bilkis Banu gang-rape case. The Supreme Court criticized the Gujarat government for exercising powers it does not have. With the cancellation of the leniency, all 11 accused in the case will go back to jail.

The Gujarat government released all the 11 accused on the occasion of Independence Day in 2022. However, Bilkis Banu, CPM leader Subhashini Ali and TMC leader Mahua Moitra approached the court questioning the decision of the Gujarat government.

On January 21, 2008, the CBI court in Mumbai sentenced them to life imprisonment. Their sentence was later upheld by the Bombay High Court. After 15 years in prison, one of the accused approached the Supreme Court seeking release from prison. After the Supreme Court directed the Gujarat government to look into the issue of commutation of sentences, the government formed a committee. After this, the order was issued acquitting all the 11 accused.
