S.J. New is a 2004 film directed by Surya. The film was released in Tamil and Telugu and was a super hit. In Tamil S.J. While Suriya himself was the hero, Mahesh Babu was the hero in Telugu. The film depicts the transformation of an eight-year-old boy into a young man through an experiment and the problems he faces later.
Devyani played the hero’s mother in both languages. The story of the movie is written by S.J. Devayani said that she was not interested in playing the role of Amma when Suriya told her.
Devyani said that she was acting as a heroine that day but Surya came to her and talked to her and made her understand. She was speaking in an interview given to Suhasini on Cine Ulakam channel.
‘New is first in Telugu cinema. Her name was Nani. Mahesh will play Babu’s mother. When I told the story, I said that I can’t, I won’t do this role. I was playing the heroine at that time.
Surya says of course I have to act, I will reach home in ten minutes and then we will talk. He came home and told the story. Each scene was told and acted. Really impressed me. Finally I agreed to do it.
But I didn’t know this movie was also available in Tamil. Surya said that after Telugu, it has Tamil and you should act in that too. I said not in Tamil. But Surya insisted that she wanted me. Finally I did it in Tamil too,’ said Devayani.
Devyani also talked about the hit song Kalail Dinamum from the film. ‘There is no greater tribute to mothers than the lyrics in it. It’s a beautiful song. I am also happy that I got that song,’ added Devyani.
