Actress Denise De Weerdt passed away at the age of 92

Actress and teacher Denise De Weerdt passed away on Saturday night, her son reports. She was known for roles in musicals, theater and television. De Weerdt was 92.

De Weerdt has played more than 300 roles on theater, in films and on television. In her early years she played the role of Anne Frank in the play of the same name and she took the lead role in the Flemish version of the musical ‘My fair lady’.

She became best known on TV for the role of Nellie Dias in the series ‘De kat’, as Barbara in ‘Axel Nort’, as ‘Catho’ in ‘De Paradijsvogels’ and as ‘Madame Flour’ in ‘Slisse & Cesar’. In 2002 she also played a guest role in ‘FC De Kampioenen’ as Moema Boma, the mother of Balthazar Boma.

De Weerdt was also active as a teacher at the Studio Herman Teirlinck. Together with Marina Candael and Alfons Goris she was one of the founders of the musical direction.
