Veteran actress and TVB host Chuk Man Kwan has passed away from lung cancer at the age of 55.
TVB announced the tragic news on Facebook and Man Kwan’s good friend, actor Robert Mak, confirmed the news of his death.
According to the publication, Man Kwan’s family was by his side when he passed away yesterday (March 1) in his sleep.
According to reports from Hong Kong, Man Kwan had been ill for two years, but was very secretive about her condition. Even close friends from show business like actors Brian Wong and Lawrence Lau were unaware of her illness until yesterday.
Brian, who was from the same TVB artist training class as Man Kwan, said he was stunned by the news of her passing, as the late actress seemed cheerful when he last saw her at a party in late December.
The couple, who are members of the Artiste Training Alumni Association, met frequently and he had no idea she was ill, although she seemed a bit thin. It was only after asking the other members that he found out that Man Kwan had been suffering from lung cancer for two years.
Lawrence also didn’t notice anything unusual about Man Kwan when the two acted as emcees at a friend’s birthday party last November.
She recalled that when a friend commented that Man Kwan had lost a lot of weight, she brushed it off and said she was “on a diet.”
