Actress and model Dilyana Popova plays a leading role in the new Bulgarian film “The Picasso Affair”, which is about to be released on the big screen across the country on October 13. In the story, inspired by real events, Dilyana is in the image of an art patron who is engaged in a not particularly legitimate business.
In addition to Dilyana Popova, in “The Picasso Affair” we will also see Bashar Rahal, Philip Bukov, Svezhen Mladenov, Raina Karayaneva and other popular faces from the Bulgarian scene.
The film is inspired by real events such as the robbery of the museum in Rotterdam and real characters – Bulgarian politicians and gangsters, but the story is completely fictional, says the director of the production Jan Yanev.
“It’s a movie about the life choices that people make. And because there are several moments in life that are defining,” adds Yanev. He shares that he is inspired by the style of Guy Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino. “As a director, it’s like that, but I’m much softer. I’m not that brutal. Only a few scenes are an exception. The film goes more towards the comedy than the crime genre,” he adds.
The plot is convoluted enough, and my goal was to avoid clichés. I don’t want the viewer to know at the tenth minute what the final will be. Apart from the plot, I also bet on the characters being interesting. Because there are too many good characters in most romantic comedies that spew from the screen,” says the director.
However, he revealed to BTA that the filming was not without difficulties, as on the first day actor Filip Bukov broke a ligament in his leg. That’s why scenes had to be redone – so that it wouldn’t be obvious that he couldn’t walk. Just when he recovered, he had to eat such a fistful according to the script that he passed out.
According to Jan Yanev, in “The Picasso Affair” we will see familiar actors in a new light. The image of Bashar Rahal will be remembered long after the film is over, the director is categorical. He is a peltek policeman, a big character who wants to become the chief secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, or at least he is trying. Svezen Mladenov plays the chief prosecutor. In the other roles are Galya Sarafova, Zafir Rajab, Pavel Vladimirov. The former “Miss Bulgaria” Zheni Kalkandzhieva and the musical performers Christian Kirilov and Tita are also participating.
Dilyana Popova undeniably stands out in every film she takes part in and has long managed to escape the image of a beauty with a penchant for the cinema, after already having a number of successful roles behind her.

Dilyana was born on September 24, 1981 in the small town of Gulyantsi, where she lived until the eighth grade. After that, he moved to Pleven, where he graduated from a clothing technical school, and then fashion design at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia.

I chose to invite Dilyana Popova as my stage partner in the music video for my song “Today is better” because we had a lot of great moments during the filming of “The Return” and I think she fulfills many men’s dreams. A great woman who doesn’t just have a beautiful “facade”, she has a lot of depth and intelligence. I gave her my album when we were shooting the movie, she really liked that track and even then she told me – well, one day, if you shoot a music video, we’ll shoot it together. So it happened.

Dilyana and I have been friends for more than 15 years. There was never a shadow of jealousy between us. We are quite different characters and complement each other. In her interview for Trud News, Dilyana admitted that her relationship with her beloved Lachezar Zahariev is serious. “Yes, they have been like that for two years now, but I avoid commenting on it. For so many years, I’ve shared very little about what’s going on with my relationships, but I can’t hide that we’re together anymore.” And to the question of whether she is getting ready for a wedding, the beautiful actress answers: “I have never had such wishes – I want everything to be easy. I don’t stress, I have one child and I want to live peacefully.”
