Actors such as Alberto San Juan, Alba Flores, Nathalie Poza, Sergio Pazos or Itziar Castro have celebrated this Monday an act of support in favor of the actress and activist Pamela Palenciano, who has suffered, for weeks, a campaign of harassment on social networks, after a Vox deputy called her “garbage.”
The event, which was held at the Teatro del Barrio in Madrid, had the purpose of showing support for the actress after, at the end of May, the deputy of Vox Alicia V. Rubio, published a video made in an institute of a monologue on sexist violence in Palenciano, a criticism for which the deputy argued the need for a parental veto.
The video in question is a performance from two years ago, which until Rubio shared it, “out of context” on his social networks, had 16 views on YouTube, explains Pamela Palenciano.
In his message, Rubio described the actress as “undesirable” and “stupid” and described her monologue as “garbage in the classrooms.” From there, the harassment for Palenciano’s performance has been permanent through social networks and has extended to his family, according to the actress, who has specified: “the strongest thing is that my family is attacked and frightened” .
“Not only blows hurt” is a monologue written 18 years ago, which has served the actress as “therapy” and salvation, because in it she tells of the situation of harassment she suffered years ago, she explained to an audience that she had provided a strong applause of support before she took the floor and with which she has felt “covered”.
Palenciano defends himself against the criticism of the deputy of the Madrid Assembly when he accuses her of “laughing” at some students who leave the room and of “ridiculing” them. “I did not laugh at anyone, I simply used a theatrical technique, ‘role playing'”, which tries to put the viewer in front of the mirror in search of a reaction.
Enrique Quintanilla, from the governing council of the Teatro del Barrio, has shown his support for the actress with a resounding: “we are not going to give in to blackmail” and has pointed out that harassment is everyone’s business.
On the other hand, the actress Marta Sanz has highlighted in a video message Palenciano’s courage by sharing her experience with a story full of “a sense of humor and intelligence.” Meanwhile, Itziar Castro has pointed out that there is a part of society that “hates that because we are women we do not shut up and what they do not realize is that we want to change the world.”
Sergio Pazos has appealed to the need for politicians to agree to change the educational system, with a long-lasting project that “teaches in equality and respect.”
Alba Flores explained that her presence was due in addition to being a partner as well as a spectator. “I have seen his monologue and I came out learning things” and he has commented that in addition to education, it is also necessary to “reflect” on how things are told in cinema or theater.
“It is essential to defend a culture of quality, because culture helps us to have critical thinking and to fight against fascism, and Pamela contributes to this,” Flores said.
Darío Adanti has pointed out that the harassment campaign is a “reactionary” gesture and Alberto San Juan has been blunt with “you will not be alone.”
