Actor Yoo Ah-in (37, real name Eom Hong-sik), who was put on trial on charges of habitual drug use, admitted to taking propofol but claimed, “I was prescribed it along with the procedure.” Although he admitted to smoking marijuana, he denied having a teacher who smoked marijuana and a teacher who destroyed evidence.

On the 23rd, Criminal Division 25-1 of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Park Jeong-gil, Park Jeong-je, and Ji Gwi-yeon) held the second trial of Yoo Ah-in, who was indicted on charges of habitual propofol use, buying illegal prescriptions for sleeping pills in other people’s names, smoking and teaching marijuana, and instructing the destruction of evidence.

Yoo Ah-in’s lawyer said, “I have suffered from depression, panic disorder, and sleep disorders for a long time while living a life that attracts public attention,” and added, “It is true that he gradually developed dependence on sleeping anesthetics while undergoing various procedures in the process, and he is in a situation of dependence.” “We all acknowledge that the medication was administered,” he said.

However, he claimed, “In situations where a procedure was necessary, the medication was prescribed and administered under the professional judgment of doctors,” and “the defendant had no involvement whatsoever.”

He also admitted to purchasing sleeping pills in the name of a family member. However, this also showed the position that “I received a direct prescription and purchased it from a pharmacist.”

In addition, he admitted to smoking marijuana three times, but denied the charges of encouraging a fellow YouTuber to smoke marijuana while staying in the U.S. and instigating the destruction of evidence.

Regarding Mr. Choi, who was indicted along with Yoo Ah-in, the defense lawyer argued, “Since we are claiming that Yoo Ah-in is not guilty of violating the Narcotics Act, Choi’s charge of aiding and abetting the Narcotics Act is also not established.”

Yoo Ah-in is accused of administering propofol 181 times between 2020 and 2022 and illegally prescribing sleeping pills 44 times in the name of another person between 2021 and 2022.

In January of last year, he was accused of asking a fellow YouTuber to smoke marijuana in order to make him an accomplice when he was smoking marijuana at his lodgings in Los Angeles, USA.
