Vladimír Marek graduated from DAMU and played for years at the puppet theater Drak in Hradec Králové. Since 1991, he has been engaged in the Na Zábradlí Theater in Prague, where he has performed in Havel’s Temptation, for example, or in Chekhov’s Uncle Váň. He did not play the main role on the railing, yet he was a prominent figure in the ensemble, both under the director Jan Grossman and Petr Lébl. He graduated from the theater in 2010.
He often prepared his own productions. In 2013, the Salome project premiered, which was directed by Daniel Špinar and Mark. In it, Marek came up with a new look at Salome as the personification of female sensuality. Originally he wanted to start from Oscar Wild’s romantic drama, in the end he just borrowed quotes, which he translated into verses. That’s why he sang some monologues. He used his versatile talent in drama, dance and singing, used puppets, there were parodies and film extras.
In the film, his appearance seemed to predetermine him more for negative characters, such as the role of a mafia boss in the Gingerbread Tower. He was cast in one of his first television roles by director Jitka Němcová, when in the production Dance Entertainment from 1990 she evoked the illusion of an actual television raid on television. After the usual announcement of the show by Maria Tomsová, the then unknown actor Marek broke into the studio and took the announcer hostage. Later, a message appeared on the screen stating that this was not a real assault, but hundreds of viewers who were calling the television what was happening had succumbed to mystification.
Vladimír Marek also played a number of musical roles on the stages of the Ta Fantastika and Hybernia Theater. His most notable roles included The Jester / Narrator in Johanka z Arku and the Wizard of Merlin in Excalibur. He has also performed in the musicals Cabaret and Kvaska.
