In March of this year, Actor Sam Neill, recognized for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the 90s saga “Jurassic Park”, revealed that he had been diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a very rare and advanced-stage type of cancer.
At that time, and through his memoir, “Have I Ever Told You This?” Neill expressed his fears about the illness, as the outlook sounded quite critical: “The thing is, I’m done for. Possibly dying,” he wrote.
Seven months later, and fortunately the cancer has subsided and is currently in remission.and although he knows that the disease can return at any time, for now Neill is focused on enjoying his life and trying to forget everything related to his illness.
“I know I have it, but I’m not interested in it,” he tells Australian Story. “He’s out of my control. If you can’t control him, don’t get involved,” he added.
Living without the word cancer constantly floating around in his thoughts has been quite difficult, especially since his doctors have warned him that at some point the experimental treatment he has undergone will stop working. However, he trusts that they will be able to try some other option due to current scientific advances in the fight against cancer.
Neill revealed that he is not afraid of death. He even confesses to being prepared for whatever destiny has in store for him. The only thing that really terrifies him is thinking about acting retirement: “It horrifies me,” he said.
After the concern that his comments sparked, the actor wanted to reassure his friends and fans, ensuring that his words were taken out of context and that he actually feels well and plans to live in remission for many more years.
EVERYTHING’S FINE. I’M FINE!!

Please ignore the conflated stories appearing in today’s press. A passing comment on last night’s show has been taken out of context. Rest assured, I am firmly in remission and plan to stay that way for years to come.
All is well, beautiful day here in Western Australia, and it will be tomorrow too.
Sam has remained active on film sets during his battle with cancer. In 2022 he premiered the miniseries “The Twelve” and this year alone he has already participated in three films. He is also directing and will co-star in the film “Apples Never Fall.”
For now, he explained, his life passes between his farm in Australia and the hospital wards, where he has to go every two weeks to be transfused, but he feels extremely grateful for each day he manages to overcome: “(I am) happy to breathe and look at the blue sky. I started to look at my life and realized how immensely grateful I am for so much,” he concluded.
