It seems like a joke that got out of hand, but they are only appearances. The actors worked together with the American Alliance Against Colorectal Cancer and the outreach organization Drive from behind to draw attention to the advice that the age for preventive bowel examination has been lowered from 50 to 45 years. “Rob and I will both turn 45 this year,” says Reynolds. “And what comes with that age is a colonoscopy. It’s one small step that can literally, really literally, save your life.”
The video does not show the actual colonoscopy, but it does show what happened before and after. Doctors also explain. “This is a very small polyp,” said Dr. Jonathan LaPook, the physician who examined Reynolds. “Nobody would know he has this. But he’s reached the age to be screened, 45. He had routine screening, and that’s it. That’s why people need to do it. They really need to do it. This saves lives. “
Colonoscopy is the gold standard, the test of choice for colon cancer prevention, says Dr. Leo Treyzon, who studied McElhenney. “We think colon cancer is 100% curable, as long as healthy people get the routine tests done on time.” McElhenney wanted to know if he could do something preventive to avoid polyps. “At this point, there isn’t enough evidence that eating habits make a difference,” said Dr Treyzon. “But what makes the difference is the screening and the follow-up. See you in a few years.”
