It was the wife of Julian Sands (65) who reported him missing last Friday evening, after he had gone on a mountain trip in the Mount Baldy mountain area.
His name was released by local authorities on Wednesday afternoon.
– From what I have understood, he left during the day and did not return, says Gloria Huerta at the police station in San Bernardino in the state of California, writes ABC News.
Sands lives in the northern part of Hollywood.
The 65-year-old starred in a number of high-profile films and TV programs since the 1980s. Among the films he is best known for are “A Room with a View” (1985), “Warlock” (1989), “Arachnophobia” (1990), “Boxing Helena” (1993) and “Leaving Las Vegas” (1995) .
The 65-year-old also played the role of Superman’s father Jor-El in the TV series “Smallville”, and has key roles in, among others, “24” and “Dexter”

According to The Guardian Sands told the newspaper the other day that he is at his happiest when he is “near a mountain peak on a gloriously cold morning”.
Missing from the same area
Very demanding weather conditions have been reported in the mountain area where Sands had made the trip. The meteorologists have issued a danger warning for a high risk of avalanches.
Therefore, the emergency services have had limited opportunities to use aircraft in the search work.
The Guardian writes that rescue crews had to be taken out on Saturday evening for reasons of their own safety.
Another man has also been reported missing after going on a mountain trip in the same area. ABC has named him as Bob Gregory. He was reported missing by his family on Monday afternoon.
They fear he may have fallen and injured himself.
– Dangerous conditions
Search crews have been searching for him in the Crystal Lake area of the San Gabriel Mountains in the northernmost part of Los Angeles County.
However, the search on Wednesday was limited by the icy conditions in the terrain, the authorities say.
– The conditions are so dangerous. Even the more experienced hikers are having problems now, so we advise people to stay away from the area, says Huerta of the San Bernandino police, according to ABC.
