« NWe lost a legend last night. “It is with these words published on Instagram that Sam Lerner announced the death of his uncle, actor Michael Lerner. Oscar nominee for playing Jack Lipnick in Barton Fink, in 1991, he died at age 81. No information was given as to the cause of his death.
After a first appearance on television in a sports program at the age of 13, he developed a passion for theatre. He obtained several scholarships, to study at the University of Berkeley, in California, then in London, where he stayed with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. He is then spotted by an agent who takes him to Los Angeles. His career can begin.
He exploded during the 1970s when he multiplied the films (Alex in Wonderland, Vote McCay, Mr Saint Ives or Godzilla) and TV series (MASH, Clueless or the all risk agency).
“It’s hard to put into words how brilliant my Uncle Michael was and how much he influenced me. His stories have always inspired me and made me fall in love with comedy. He was the coolest, most confident, most talented man, and the fact that he is of my blood will always make me feel special, ”continues his nephew.
