“I have signed an agreement from July 2. Otherwise, my sick leave would run out and the theater would have to start paying me a salary. But for what exactly?!” Egliens, who worked in the theater since 2000, reveals in an interview to “Ieva” magazine.
This decision did not come easily, and in the last two months, Eglien’s health has improved rapidly and he has regained his ability to speak. The actor does not hide it – he has not felt well in the theater for the last five years. “Thinking about what the theater is, what it’s about, and who I am in the theater, I’ve been unhappy for at least the last five years. I’ve been asking myself this question for a long time – what am I doing there? I’ve been annoyed, but I’ve been full cheeks, gone and done.”
In the interview, Eglien also spoke for the first time about his diagnosis. “I have been diagnosed with a disease that is rare in the world. Simply put, there are spasms in the larynx, and no one can tell what exactly caused them.”
It has already been reported that Eglien has been struggling with health problems for more than a year. The Council of Latvian Doctors prescribed the actor a procedure to be performed in a German clinic, but it required financial support. In order for the actor to regain his ability to speak, a donation campaign was launched on February 14, and the required amount was collected within a couple of hours.
