Actor Mark Margolis, famous for playing Tio in the TV series Gingerbread Man, has died

After a short illness at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital, the American actor Mark Margolis, known from the series Gingerbread Man or the movie Scarface, died this Thursday. He was 83 years old. His agent confirmed the death to The Guardian.

Margolis was born in 1939 to a Jewish family in Philadelphia. After a short university study, he went to New York and took up acting. During his fifty-year career, he mainly received supporting roles.

He rose to fame as the brutal but loyal wheelchair-bound drug lord Hector Salamanca aka Tio in the Gingerbread Dad series. He first appeared in the second episode of the second season in 2009. Margolis was nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of a man who can only communicate with signs and constantly calls for help. Fans even founded his character separate website.

Before he suffered a stroke, he played Hector again in Call Saul, which anticipated and developed the fates of the protagonists of the same fictional world in six series.

Margolis has also appeared in most of director Darren Aronofsky’s films, from Pi and Requiem for a Dream to The Fountain, The Wrestler and Black Swan to 2014’s Noah. , why Aronofsky keeps offering him other roles. “I already worked on his first film, Pi, which had a budget of 60 thousand dollars. Nobody knew him then. I didn’t give him a break for three months, because he kept promising me that he would pay me the fee. Only when I started threatening to complain about his mother, so he got the money,” Margolis recounted.
