Viewers know the popular actor as Kryštof Mareček from the series Ulice, but Kryštof Rímský is completely different in his private life. He has not experienced a divorce, he has been with his partner for 25 long years and has a very peculiar recipe for a long-term relationship. What would you recommend to everyone?
Do you remember how long you have been playing in the Street?
You surprised me. I think 15 or 16 years old.
Your character Kryštof Mareček has already been through many situations. Will he have peace for a while now?
I hope not. To make it about something. I don’t want peace.

There is a divorce going on in your story right now, have you experienced something like this yourself?
Thank god no. I have been with a woman for 25 years and I hope it will continue.
Do you have a recipe for maintaining a long-term partnership?
He is perhaps the only one, and that is to be separated often. For a long time, I was in the theater in Ústí nad Labem or in Brno, I traveled around the stables for a long time. But when I was home, we enjoyed it. But now we are older, I don’t go anywhere, so we are happy to be together. I would see that as the only recipe. And then tolerance, that’s important.
I remembered Mr. Svěrák’s words in the film Returnable Bottles, where he said he was a welcoming type. That’s why he has to leave first so that he can welcome himself.
I didn’t think of that. Yeah, I’m a welcoming guy. It is nice.
What do you do in your spare time when you are not filming or acting?
I have a lot of activities. I tinker a lot, I love the garden. I do sports, I like to ride motorcycles, everyone knows that about me, I’ve said it a lot. For example, I’m learning Arabic now.
Why Arabic?
I’m Catholic, so it’s not about faith. I watched Fauda two years ago and my wife was arranging a language application for the family. So I thought I’d give Hebrew a try. In Fauda, the language is terribly slurred, the characters switch to Arabic, and I liked it. I thought I’d give it a try. At first I thought it was complete nonsense, but I got hooked and really enjoy it.
How many languages do you still know?
Not really. I can speak English, I can arrange that. I used to speak very well, but unfortunately, after twenty years at the Czech theater, I keep my head occupied with something else, I don’t speak much. I understand everything, but the conversation is stuck. If I went somewhere for 14 days, I’ll talk. Then I graduated in French. And then a little bit of Serbian, but that’s really useless.
