American actor Jonathan Majors, a rising star in Hollywood, was arrested in Manhattan on suspicion of assaulting a 30-year-old woman, New York police said on Sunday.
Police said they responded to a call to emergency services on Saturday morning and that after a “preliminary investigation” they determined that “a 33-year-old man had been involved in an argument servant with a 30-year-old woman,” according to a statement.
“Assaulted”
The woman, who told police she was “assaulted” and whose relationship to the actor has not been clarified, was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries to her head and neck, and is in a “stable condition”, according to the same source.
The actor’s agent, Carrie Gordon, assured in a press release published by the daily Los Angeles Timesthat the actor had “done nothing wrong”.
She said she hopes she can “clear his name” quickly, while the actor’s attorney, Priya Chaudhry, quoted by local media, said they were “gathering and going quickly to present to the district attorney evidence in the hope that all charges against him will be withdrawn”.
The actor released and soon presented to a judge
The judicial authorities did not respond to requests from AFP, but according to local media, the actor was released and will have to appear again before a judge on May 8.
Jonathan Majors is currently starring in two big-budget movies, “Creed III” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” He also plays in “Magazine Dreams”, a film recently presented at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah (west).
