American actor Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York on Saturday and charged with strangulation, assault and harassment, authorities said.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) said Majors, 33, was involved in a domestic violence case with a 30-year-old woman. The police intervened after a call to 911, lodged around 11 a.m. Saturday morning, in an apartment in Manhattan.
“The victim has informed police that he was assaulted,” an NYPD spokesperson said in a statement, according to the Associated Press, adding that Majors was in the custody of authorities.
The victim reportedly sustained minor neck and head injuries and was transported to a hospital in stable condition.
The actor, who starred in “Creed III,” which is still in theaters, was no longer detained as of Saturday evening.
A representative for Jonathan Majors told the media that his client did nothing wrong. “We are about to clear his name of any wrongdoing and move on,” he said.
Majors is currently an up-and-coming actor in Hollywood, having starred in numerous films in recent years, including “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” and “Da 5 Bloods”. among others.
