Actor Jan Kučera died. He played on one stage for 40 years

The actor Jan Kučera of the Brno City Theater died today at the age of 79. This was stated in the press release by the theater’s spokeswoman Kateřina Vižďová. He worked in the theater for 40 seasons and played over a hundred roles.

Vižďová did not state the reasons for her death. Kučera was born on October 18, 1941. While still studying at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, he played several roles in plays at the Brno State Theater. In the 1960s, for example, he played a deaf-mute servant in Nezval’s New Figaro or played in Hašek Švejk.

In the following years, he played, for example, a doctor in the musical West Side Story or a Jew in the musical ballad Koločava.

“For many viewers, it will remain an unforgettable Baptist in the legendary comedy Beetle in the Head,” said Vižďová.

According to her, Kučera officially retired in 2004, but did not leave the theater completely. In June this year, he personally took part in the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Brno City Theater.
