The Brno theater scene was hit by sad news today. Jan Kučera, a long-time member of the Municipal Theater ensemble, who entertained audiences in the South Moravian metropolis for decades, died at the age of 79.

The sad news was brought by the Brno City Theater, where Jan Kučera († 79) spent forty long seasons and played more than a respectable hundred roles. The well-known theater jerec died today, ie on Wednesday, November 4.

Although he was retired in February 2004, he did not leave the theater at all. Viewers could still see him in some productions, even if only with the suffix “as a guest”. On June 27, 2020, he personally took part in the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Brno City Theater, where he and his other colleagues unveiled the Board of Honor.

Kučera, real name Jan Heger, was born on October 18, 1941, graduated from JAMU in Brno, and during his studies he played several roles in drama at the Brno State Theater. He then became a member of the Julius Fučík Theater, but during the 1964/1965 theater season, the theaters under the banner of the Brno City Theater merged.
