At the age of 77, actor Hugo Koolschijn passed away in his hometown of Amsterdam. Since 1987, Koolschijn has been part of the permanent ensemble of Toneelgroep Amsterdam – now International Theater Amsterdam.
The International Theater Amsterdam (ITA) reports that Hugo Koolschijn passed away last night, after a short illness, at the age of 77. From the beginning in 1987 he was associated with Toneelgroep Amsterdam and remained associated with the ITA ensemble until the end.
Career
Koolschijn was born in The Hague in 1946. In 1972 he graduated from the Theater School in Amsterdam, after which he joined the famous theater group De Appel from The Hague. He then moved to the Toneelgroep Amsterdam in 1987.
At ITA Koolschijn played in classic plays by Anton Chekhov and William Shakespeare, among others. In the last theater season he played in the performances The Damned in Judas.
Koolschijn was also a writer and wrote solo performances, among other things Singing lessons (1996) in A French singer (1997). He wrote the autobiography in 2019 Depictionin which he looks back on his life and his youth in a reformed sect.
Film and television
Koolschijn made a splash not only in the theater, but also in the television and film world. In the past he starred in films such as Soldier of Orange (1977)in Erik or the small insect bookand has appeared in various series, including Cops Rotterdam, De Stamhouder in Baantjer.
