Actor Hardy Krüger has died – Novinky.cz

He was born in Berlin and made his film debut at the age of 15 in the German film Young Eagle. He was thwarted by further war. Despite his young age, at just 16, he was drafted into the army. He experienced heavy fighting and was eventually captured by American forces.

He only got into filming after the war. Due to his appearance (blond hair and blue eyes) he often played a typical German soldier or commander. In 1957, he captured a role in The Escape, in which he played Franz von Werr, a German Luftwaffe officer who was shot down in the Battle of Britain and eventually managed to get back to Germany.

The most successful films of his career include The Secrets of Santa Vittoria, The Battle of the Neretva and The Bridge Too Far.

Thanks to his language skills, he spoke fluent English and French, he also began to play in foreign productions. Alongside John Wayne, he starred in Hatari, starring James Stewart and Peter Finc in The Flight of the Phoenix.

In the film Sunday at the Villa d’Avray, he played the main character of the pilot Pierre, who experienced psychological trauma in the war in Indochina. The film won an Oscar in 1962 for Best Foreign Language Film.

Krüger played alongside stars such as Claudia Cardinal, Sean Connery, Yul Brynner, Charles Aznavour, Cathérine Deneuve and others. He has 75 films on his account.
