Actor Gavin Creel, a Broadway star, dies at the age of 48 as a result of cancer | LOS40

A day earlier, the country music world and American film lovers mourned the loss of musician Kris Kristofferson. But this same Tuesday, television also had to say goodbye to another well-known actor who was very beloved in the 1980s, John Ashton, who played Sergeant Taggart in the Beverly Hills Cop saga. And today we also mourn the death of another great actor, younger than the rest of his colleagues, who had a renowned career on Broadway: Gavin Creel.

The 48-year-old theater actor has died as a result of cancer two months after being diagnosed with this disease, as reported by the magazine People; although the death occurred this past Monday. It was his partner, Alex Temple, who confirmed the news of the sad death to the media.

His closest circle has expressed how unexpected his death has been for everyone, since it was last July when he was diagnosed with metastatic sarcoma-type cancer “that attacks the bones or soft tissue of the body, including muscles, fat and nerves.” The actor was initially admitted and treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, but was later sent home to receive palliative care there.

Gavin Creel, who maintained close friendships with other Broadway stars such as Sara Bairelles and Sutton Foster, worked on plays such as Thoroughly Modern Millie, Into the Woods, Hair, Mary Poppins, The Book of Mormon, She Loves Me and Hello, Dolly! . The actor graduated in Fine Arts, trained at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theater and Dance to begin a professional career that lasted more than three decades and was proclaimed a Tony winner.
