Last year, one of the most famous Czech actors celebrated his 80th birthday. But he always carefully guarded his privacy. His wife is even nicknamed “Mrs Columb”. Why did he hide her from the world for so long? Perhaps precisely because he did not want to be the center of attention of tabloid journalists.
Television, radio and film actor Francis the German was born on August 9 during the Second World War in Sezimov Ústí. After high school, he began studying at the Prague DAMU, which he completed in 1964. He then joined the Municipal Theaters of Prague, where he stayed for 18 years.
The German was etched in the audience’s memory with his role as a divorced father in a family film How to pull out a stool from a whale (1977), and sequels How to get the daddy into the penitentiary (1978). However, this is only a small fraction of his successful acting career.
The artist has been a member of the National Theater in Prague since 1982. At the same time, in the same year, he began working as a teacher at the Prague Academy of Music. A long series of films and series followed. In 1998, he won the Thalia Award for outstanding stage performance.
František Němec also has a wonderfully velvety and memorable voice. That is why he is one of the few actors who are regulars in Czech dubbing. It is not surprising that in 2021 he was awarded the František Filipovský Award for long-term acting mastery in dubbing.
The popular actor has the image of a great easy-going and calm person. He seems like a serious gentleman, and he also has a great sense of justice and morality. And it’s the same with relationships. Despite the fact that he has never appeared in public with a lady, he is happily married.

Ivanka was able to forgive him absolutely everything. According to his words, the actor had a period when he wanted to wash in pubs. “But it was the alcohol, not me,” he joked. His greatest struggle in life is his addiction to cigarettes.
The artist was never able to completely give up his cigarettes. He’s thankful that it’s not a problem for his wife, and he doesn’t blame his addiction. According to her husband, Ms. Ivanka has a halo.
