Feyd-Rautha was sorely missed in the first “Dune” film. Now we know who will play the central role in Dune 2, following in the footsteps of Sting, who so impressively filled the role in David Lynch’s film adaptation.
As Hollywood industry magazines unanimously report, Austin Butler is set to star as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in Dune 2. The deal isn’t done yet, as some contract details still need to be clarified. But those responsible around director Denis Villeneuve have obviously found their desired actor and favorite for the important and iconic part.
Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen is another of the Baron’s (Stellan Skarsgård) nephews. After Feyd’s brother Glossu Rabban (Dave Bautista) failed to retake Arrakis, it’s up to the devious Feyd-Rautha to fix it. This leads to a fight against Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet).

In the 1984 film adaptation, directed by David Lynch, pop superstar Sting played the role. His appearance in an oiled body with absurd underpants makes the part even more legendary than it already is due to the book template.

Will we see Austin Butler in a similar outfit? Since Villeneuve’s approach is very different from his predecessor Lynch, it remains to be seen how the hot-headed Feyd-Rautha will present himself to him.
Austin Butler: Feyd-Rautha is supposed to be a hip young star
with Austin Butler Denis Villeneuve definitely wants to grab an extremely popular young star for the role. After playing guest roles in teen series such as “Hannah Montana” or “The Wizards of Waverly Place”, Butler made his TV breakthrough primarily with the leading roles in “The Carrie Diaries” and “The Shannara Chronicles”. But now he is increasingly pushing into the cinema, where he has previously had several supporting roles, such as in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood”.

A big exclamation point should be the title role alongside Tom Hanks in the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic “Elvis”. Butler’s recently released first trailer attracted a lot of attention, and after the theatrical release (June 23, 2022) it should continue to increase. So it would be a smart move by Villeneuve and Co. to secure his services now.
„Dune 2is slated to hit theaters on October 19, 2023. In addition to Austin Butler, the focus of the cast is primarily on returnees. Of course, Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya are back in the lead roles, but Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista and Josh Brolin are also set to return, among others.
In addition to Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, there should also be two other key new cast members. Villeneuve’s plans for the mighty Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV are still unknown, although we expect to hear a personal announcement here in the near future. His eldest daughter, Princess Irulan Corrino, is set to play Black Widow and Midsommar star Florence Pugh. Here, too, there are probably only a few contract details to be clarified.
