In his prolific career, he gave life to Captain Von Trapp, in ‘The Rebel Novice’ oa Klingon en ‘Star Trek’. In total he worked on about 200 films. He won an Oscar at age 82, being the oldest actor to receive it. He also won Tony and Emmy awards. Christopher Plummer, the elegant Canadian actor, has passed away at the age of 91.
Plummer died Friday morning at his Connecticut residence with his wife Elaine Taylor from complications from a fall, said Lou Pitt, who in addition to his friend, was his manager.
For some 50 years of his artistic career, Plummer acted in various films such as ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ (‘The Girl with the Tattooed Dragon’), ‘The Insider’, (‘The Informant’), in which he plays the journalist Mike Wallace, or ‘A Beautiful Mind’ (‘A brilliant mind’).
The Canadian-born actor played most of Shakespeare’s great roles, including Hamlet, Iago, Othello, Prospero, Henry V and a shocking King Lear at Lincoln Center in 2004. He was a frequent star at Shakespeare’s Stratford Festival in Canada.
His passage through the stage of the theater won him two Tony Awards. Plummer received the highest honor that his native country bestows on a civilian by being named a Companion of the Order of Canada by Queen Elizabeth II in 1968. In 1986 he was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.
Plummer married Tony-winning actress Tammy Grimes in 1956, with whom he had a daughter, actress Amanda Plummer, the following year. The couple divorced in 1960. A subsequent five-year marriage to Patricia Lewis ended in 1967. Plummer married in 1970 for the third and final time to Taylor, a dancer he credited with helping him overcome an alcohol problem.
