Boseman played roles in “42” and “Get on up”, in which he gave soul legend James Brown a face. But he only came into the global spotlight as action hero Black Panther. The film of the same name broke one record after another in cinema in 2018 and was awarded three Oscars.
Boseman played King T’Challa, the chief of a tribe from the fictional African nation of Wakanda. Our film expert Ward Verrijcken praised the Marvel production because the film was not only made with great respect for African traditions, but also – and above all – because the cast consists largely of black actors and actresses.
Boseman himself spoke about an important signal that was given with the blockbuster: “We have all been told that there is no place for us: young, talented and black.”
