Van der Vlugt was born in 1934 in The Hague. He had a Jewish mother who was murdered in the Auschwitz extermination camp in World War II. He himself was not deported because his father was non-Jewish.
After the war he followed drama training at the Theater School in Amsterdam. He graduated in 1961 as an actor and director. In the 1960s Van der Vlugt broke through as doctor Finlay in the TV series Memorandum from a doctor.
Even in old age he was still active as an actor. “I can still talk, think, walk and remember and then you can act”, was his conclusion. This summer he played in a play and for the coming years a tour, a reprise and two feature films were on the agenda.
“Bram van der Vlugt did not want to say goodbye to this profession and the profession from him”, his manager says in an obituary.
Afraid of corona
In an interview with the AD he said in October that he had plans to turn 95 and that he was anything but thinking about quitting. He called the corona time “terrible” in that interview.
Van der Vlugt: “I am more afraid than in March. Now you can’t get away with: well, maybe I will only get a little ill. That could be, but not at my age, I think.”
