Actor Billy Porter Forced to Sell House Amid Hollywood Strike

Celebrities American actor Billy Porter (53) reveals that he has to sell his house in the midst of the actors’ strike in Hollywood. Despite the success of the series ‘Pose’, in which Porter could be seen as Pray Tell until 2021, the actor still has to make ends meet, he says. The strike also canceled two of his upcoming projects.

Due to the Hollywood strike, many actors have to make difficult financial decisions. Billy Porter knows this better than anyone now that he is forced to sell his house. He revealed this to the London newspaper ‘Evening Standard’. “The life of an artist, until you make ‘f**k-you money’, which I still don’t do, is still ‘check-to-check’,” says Billy.

The actor bought the house on Long Island, New York, in October 2020 with his ex-husband Adam Smith for 1.4 million dollars (almost 1.3 million euros). It’s 4,500 square feet, has four bedrooms and five bathrooms, and was built in 1970. It’s the first house Billy ever bought, he told “Condé Nast Traveler” magazine in 2021. Before that, he lived for years in an apartment in New York.

With Hollywood now shutting down, two of Billy’s upcoming projects would also have been called off. “I was supposed to be in a new movie and a new television show starting in September. None of that happens,” he said. “So to the person who said ‘we’re going to starve them until they have to sell their apartments,’ you’ve already starved me.”

Both the writers in Hollywood have been striking for two months for better pay and working conditions and for more protection against the impact of artificial intelligence on their work. About a month ago, the actors also joined the strike and the financial consequences are very tangible. To support unemployed actors, several top actors such as George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Matt Damon and Nicole Kidman contributed to an emergency fund that has now raised more than $ 15 million. There is currently no such emergency fund for the striking writers.
