Actor Alan Arkin Passes Away at 89: Remembering His Legacy

American actor Alan Arkin passed away on Friday at the age of 89. His family confirmed this to People magazine. Arkin, who received an Oscar in 2006 for best supporting actor in the film Little miss sunshine, had been known for a long time that his health was deteriorating.

His three sons Adam (66), Matthew (63) and Anthony (56), also actors, call their father “a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was much loved and will be greatly missed.”

Makers of the last season of the Netflix comedy The Kominsky method (2021) could not rely on the then 86-year-old actor who had one of the two leading roles in the two previous seasons. Arkin started acting in the 1960s, best known for his roles in The heart is a lonely hunter (1968), Edward Scissorhands (1990) and Glengarry Glen Ross (1992).

Arkin has received numerous nominations and awards for his work. He won a Golden Globe in 1967, received an Oscar in 2006 and was nominated six times for an Emmy in the period from 1967 to 2020.
