A weekend full of events, that of 25 and 26 March. In fact, the celebrations of the Pisan New Year will be held over the weekend and the Spring Fai Days will return, during which it will be possible to visit some particularly significant places for our cultural heritage. There will also be, as usual, theatrical performances, concerts and markets. Here are some tips.

Everything is ready for the celebrations of the Pisan New Year, with the city of the Tower which will enter in 2024. The main appointment is on Saturday 25 in the Cathedral, when, at Noon, the ceremony of the ray of sunshine will take place, marking the transition to the new year. A tradition that refers to what was already attested by documents from the 10th century which testify how the city coincided the beginning of the new year with the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary of the Incarnation of Jesus. The historical procession of the Representation will start from Piazza XX Settembre Pisana which will arrive at the Cathedral passing through the Ponte di Mezzo, Borgo Stretto, Via Ulisse Dini, Piazza dei Cavalieri and Via Santa Maria.

The Fai Spring Days are back, a street event that the Italian Environmental Fund dedicates to the cultural and landscape heritage of our country, now in its 31st edition. The appointment is for Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 March, when, in Pisa, it will be possible to visit the chapels in the Carthusian hospice, the Gipsoteca di Arte Antica and Antiquarium and the “Edda Bresciani” Egyptological collections of the University of Pisa. In Santa Luce, on the other hand, the doors are open to the Edison wind farm.

An extraordinary market on the seafront of Marina di Pisa branded Anva Confesercenti Toscana Nord. The appointment, promoted by the street vendors’ association in collaboration with Radio Bruno and the Ford BluBay dealership in Ospedaletto, is for Sunday 26 March.

On Saturday 25 March at 9 pm and Sunday 26 at 5 pm, at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa, Roberto Valerio’s adaptation of ‘Uncle Vanja’, Anton Chekhov’s masterpiece, will be staged. This two-act Russian drama, which Chekhov considered more of a comedy, almost a vaudeville, was first performed on 26 October 1899 at the Moscow Art Theater, directed by Vladimir Ivanovich Nemirovich-Danchenko and Konstantin Sergeevich Stanislavsky.

Saturday 25 March, at 6 pm in the Titta Ruffo hall of the Verdi Theater in Pisa, the last appointment with ‘MusicaVerde’, the concert series by the young musicians of the Stefano Strata Academy of Music in collaboration with the Pisa Theater Foundation which with this initiative intends enhance the new generations by offering them a prestigious stage to present themselves to the city.

Sunday 26 March, at 4.30 pm at the Teatro Nuovo in Pisa on the occasion of the ‘Emozionarsi in Danza’ review, ‘Gazela, Aunt Akima and the spirit of Wisdom’ will be staged, the show freely inspired by the stories of the Mali writer Amadou Hampâté Bâ and suitable for all audiences, especially families and children. The production is by the Con.Cor.DA/Movimentoinactor Company, recognized by the Ministry of Culture (FUS) and the Tuscany Region as an Artistic Residence.

Sunday 26 March, at 5 pm at the Città del Teatro di Cascina, the Teatro Gioco Vita company arrives with the show ‘Frog’, dedicated to children aged 2 and over.

Saturday 25 March ‘Tutti in piazza’ in Cascina with many activities starting in the morning with excursions, workshops and craft beer tastings.
