Activists Rescue 1,000 Cats from Truck on its Way to Chinese Slaughterhouse, Exposing Illegal Cat Meat Trade

The truck was spotted by activists.

In the Chinese province of Jiangsu, police rescued about 1,000 cats from a truck on its way to a slaughterhouse.

About it writes CNN, citing Chinese state media.

This stopped part of the illegal trade that fraudulently sold cat meat under the guise of pork or lamb kebabs and sausages.

It is reported that animal protection activists contacted law enforcement officers. They first noticed a large number of wooden boxes containing many cats near the cemetery. Activists patrolled the streets for six days, and when a truck began transporting animals to the slaughterhouse, they intervened and called the police. The car was subsequently intercepted.

Police and agricultural authorities have since sent the animals to a shelter nearby. The traders were expected to make a profit of $20,500.

One activist said the illegal operation could sell half a kilogram of cat meat for about $4, passing it off as lamb and pork. After treatment, each cat weighs about 2 kg.

Another activist, Han Jiali, who was involved in stopping the truck, said it was not the first time and that she had stopped similar illegal trade before in Guangdong, a province in southern China.

It is not yet known whether anyone was arrested or whether the cats were strays or pets.

Let us recall that recently an employee of a famous Chinese brewery urinated in the malt tank. He ruined the brand’s reputation.
