Activists in forest next to car producer VDL Nedcar are provided with food

The activists of Save the Sterrebos said this morning they were sitting in the trees without food or drink. “Our forest defenders have been in the tree in #Sterrebos for more than 24 hours and we are not allowed to bring them food or drink.” The club called on the mayor of Sittard, Hans Verheijen, to allow the declaration of food and drinks.

The council says it will do the same. Agreements are made with the activists for this purpose. “We will also monitor those agreements. It is not the intention that people come to the Sterrebos out of free consideration and bring food and drinks. The activists are still on private property. People have nothing to do there,” the municipality writes. a press release.

In front of a road that leads to the forest is a sign with ‘No Trespassing’. A police spokesman confirms that officers do indeed stop anyone who wants to enter the forest.

Seven activists arrested

In the night from Friday to Saturday, the police arrested seven activists at the Sterrebos in Limburg. During the day on Friday, three people were also arrested around the Sterrebos. They have since been released.

Making food high in the tree

The activists went early yesterday to occupy the forest to prevent felling. They want to prevent seven hectares of the Sterrebos from disappearing to enable expansion of the production halls of car manufacturer VDL Nedcar.

In the video below, the activists show how the tree is ‘cooked’:

Forest owned by VDL

The activists say they will only leave if they receive a guarantee that the forest will not be cut down. The forest is owned by VDL and not open to the public. Yesterday sympathizers were still allowed to bring food and drinks to them, but afterwards they were also denied access by the police and enforcers of the municipality of Sittard-Geleen.
