An activist interrupted Maastricht Mayor Penn-te Strake’s New Year’s speech on Sunday evening. The action did not last long: a guard intervened and removed the man from the room.
The activist drew attention to the homeless situation in the municipality of Limburg. According to him, too little attention is paid to the homeless. “They’ve been in a dirty building for 12 years,” he said, holding up a banner.
L1 writes that the activist had already raised the issue of 24-hour hospitalization with the mayor three years ago. “That building is not safe and it is not sanitary. It is no longer possible.” But the necessary measures by the municipality have not yet been taken, according to the man.
The mayor wants to talk
Soon after the incident, the mayor said he wanted to talk to the activist. “We are not afraid of such actions. We try to listen to it, but it’s not always easy to get it right for everyone,” he said.
