Activist Charged with Incitement to Burn Down Minister’s House Granted Unrestricted Freedom

The 4th Criminal Investigation Judge granted this Saturday unrestricted freedom for Lilibeth Coimbra, who had been accused of inciting to burn down the house of the Minister of Public Works, Edgar Montaño.

“In the precautionary hearing, it was possible to destroy all the arguments of the commission of three prosecutors plus the lawyer empowered by Minister Montaño, who is the complainant. (Coimbra remains) in complete freedom. Mission accomplished!”, stated in a message from the law firm that represents her.

Specifically, Coimbra was charged with the crimes of aggravated robbery, arson, criminal association, discrimination and incitement to commit a crime. As explained by her defense, the activist published a photograph of Edgar Montaño’s house “that she does not take, making a satire.”

“If that is a crime, the Prosecutor’s Office has to verify it,” his lawyer, Christian Tejada, said this week.

The activist’s case gained greater notoriety this Friday, after she was apprehended after appearing to testify at the Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc). From the Creemos alliance they assured that the case responded to their manifestations on social networks.

“Today the MAS government arrested the young Lilibeth Coimbra from Santa Cruz for expressing her rejection of the totalitarian way in which the government acts in our department on social networks,” said a statement from the political organization.

Montaño’s house was set on fire last December, in Santa Cruz, shortly after Governor Luis Fernando Camacho was apprehended and transferred to La Paz.
