Activision CEO Bobby Kotick to Depart After 33 Years: What’s Next for the Gaming Giant?

Activision boss Bobby Kotick started leading the company back in 1991, and to illustrate how long ago the video game industry was in, the Super Nintendo had lunch in Europe in 1992…

But all things must come to an end, and with Microsoft now making Activision Blizzard part of Xbox Game Studios, Kotick has revealed that he will be leaving the company by the end of the year, nearly 33 years after he became boss. It’s unclear who will replace Kotick, but he stated in a letterpublic letterwrote:

“I have long said that I am fully committed to helping with the transition. Phil has asked me to continue as CEO of ABK, reporting to him, and we have agreed that I will serve until the end of 2023. We all look forward to working together to deliver our The team and players are integrated smoothly.

Kotick also wrote about what it means for Activision Blizzard to become part of Microsoft:

“Combining with Microsoft will bring new resources and new opportunities to our extraordinary teams around the world. It will also allow us to bring more fun, more joy and more to more players than ever before. connect.

Kotick has always been a controversial figure as the leader of the company, known to prefer a few very large franchises and rarely taking risks or investing in smaller, less certain projects. This more or less turned Activision into a Call of Duty factory, and many felt that Blizzard’s games lost quality after merging with Activision. There were also numerous complaints of unfair labor practices, accusations of discrimination and other things that people thought Kotick handled poorly.

After 33 years, the world’s largest third-party video game publisher (second party if you count Tencent as a third party) has a new leader and is now a first party, which is certainly a huge change, It will be interesting to see what this means for the future.

What do you think the next Activision Blizzard boss should do on his/her first day on the job?
