Activision Blizzard Employees Show Solidarity With Laid-off Raven Software Staff

Following the news that 12 employees in Cuervo SoftwareThe quality assurance team had their contracts terminated in “good standing,” meaning they were fired without poor performance or taking no action that resulted in their termination. More Raven Software employees have joined a strike, putting pressure on Activision Blizzard to rehire those who were released.

According to the Washington Post, more than 60 workers left the company on Monday, and the protest continues, without the workers describing a fixed date when they will return. Not ideal for Activision Blizzard, given that there is a new Call of Duty Warzone map. Worse still, the cuts come after a five-week period of overtime leading up to the release of the newest map in Warzone.

And it’s not just Raven employees getting in on the action, according to a tweet from ABetterABK (who you may have heard of in reports related to the Activision Blizzard sexual harassment scandal), they are joined by workers from QATX, QAMN and Blizzard QA. Strength in numbers and all that.

Workers supporting their fired colleagues are using the hashtag #WeAreRaven to draw public attention to the strike.

“We support your right to express your opinions and concerns in a safe and respectful manner, without fear of retaliation,” Activision Blizzard told the Washington Post.

Activision said the cuts are the result of converting temporary workers to full-time positions, but some of those who were laid off apparently had to move to Wisconsin, under the impression that incoming work would be consistent with the study. In fact, it was reported that some of them were promised more full-time positions before being laid off.

“Activision Publishing is increasing its overall investment in its development and operations resources,” the company said in a statement. “We are going to convert approximately 500 temporary workers to full-time employees in the next few months. Unfortunately, as part of this change, we also notified 20 temporary workers in all studios that their contracts would not be extended.

Today marks the third day of action for the personnel and workers affected who show solidarity with them.
