Activision Blizzard CEO says his resignation is a possibility

Bobby Kotick, the questioned CEO of Activision Blizzard, would have told the board of directors that his resignation is a possibility if the problems within the company’s work culture and its studies are not solved quickly.

A report from Wall Street Journal reveals that Kotick would have been inclined to the idea of leaving his position at a recent meeting of senior executives at Activision Blizzard. At that meeting, it was also made known to Bobby Kotick that some workers expect the CEO to resign without delay.

However, the plans for now are to stay in the position and apply all the necessary measures to end the culture of harassment that came to light a few months ago, thanks to complaints from employees.

In the meantime, Activision released a statement in which they announce the creation of a “workplace responsibility committee”, whose objective is none other than “to ensure the implementation of initiatives to end harassment and discrimination.” This committee will be composed of Reveta Bowers and Dawn Ostroff, two directors of Activision – the only ones at the table – who will receive reports directly from Bobby Kotick regarding the measures that are taken.

The creation of this committee comes right after the Activision board of directors has given its full endorsement to Bobby Kotick. And it is not for less: beyond the complaints, the company has had a stable and sustained growth during the last decades, in which it has been in charge of the questioned CEO. Therefore, it seems unlikely that this will have broader consequences for Kotick as long as the problems do not translate into large losses for shareholders.

Despite the above, there are signs that could be at least of concern for Activision Blizzard, after both Jim Ryan and Phil Spencer, both top managers of PlayStation and Xbox respectively, have said that they look closely at what happens with Blizzard and that They are evaluating the relationship with the company.
