Active Shooter Situation in Lewiston: Police Urging Residents to Stay Indoors and Lock Doors

Local police posted a photo of the shooter on Facebook, showing him with a semi-automatic weapon in a bowling alley. Police also released a picture of a white car with a front bumper believed to be painted black and asked anyone who recognized it to contact police.

“We are asking all businesses to close their doors while we investigate. The suspect is still at large,” the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department said on Facebook.

Later, the police published another picture and information about the suspect, stating that the man is dangerous, CNN reports.

A spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety urged residents to stay indoors and lock their doors. Police said schools will be closed on Thursday.

Maine Gov. Janet Mills said she “has been made aware of an active shooter situation in Lewiston.” CNN reported that at least 50 to 60 people were injured in the incidents, but it is not yet known exactly how many suffered gunshot wounds.

Lewiston has a population of approximately 38,000. It is located approximately 60 kilometers from Portland.
