J-Hope entered the 36th Army Recruit Training Center on the 18th of last month
Active duty soldiers anger over photos of ‘J-Hope’s diet’
Explanation of the user who operates the account “It is a composite photo”
[스포츠서울 | 김현덕기자] While member J-Hope (real name Jeong Ho-seok) of the group BTS enlisted in the army in April, active duty soldiers are angry over a photo of ‘J-Hope’s diet’ posted by an ARMY (BTS fandom ‘ARMY’).
Previously, from last April, a netizen created an account on the channel to post J-Hope’s military diet. Users of this account translated the military menu that J-Hope eats into English and posted it to satisfy the curiosity of overseas ARMYs.
The image of J-Hope’s first day of enlistment, released from this account, received an explosive response, recording close to 5.73 million views and 2,800 retweets.
The account said, “I’m relieved that J-Hope seems to be eating well”, “The Korean military is a good place. I hope you eat a lot and overcome the training well” and so on.
However, after the photo was released, various communities and personal channels were flooded with comments from netizens who were presumed to be active duty soldiers.
Netizen A said, “I thought only BTS J-Hope was given preferential treatment at the training center.” Please think of active duty soldiers,” he appealed.
Another netizen, Mr. B, pointed out, “Rather, you should post realistic photos,” adding, “In that way, international interest in soldiers’ diets will increase and there will be room for better diets.”
Mr. C was furious, saying, “Ami would be stunned to see J-Hope’s actual military diet,” and “Looking at the comments, I was so excited to see that the army is good these days.”
As if conscious of the controversy, the user who operates the account recently said, “The account creates a food plate image by referring to the 36th Division barracks standard diet (identical to the diet disclosed in the ‘The Camp’ app, a military communication service) disclosed on the Ministry of National Defense public data portal. ” he wrote.
In addition, “Only the menu information is accurate in the published photos of the food plate. The image is a composite of several food photos,” he explained.
He added, “I hope there will be no misunderstandings.”
Meanwhile, on the 18th of last month, J-Hope entered the 36th Division Recruit Training Center in Gangwon-do privately. J-Hope, who is serving as an active duty soldier, is scheduled to be deployed to his unit at the end of this month after completing 5 weeks of basic military training. His expected discharge date is October 17, 2024.
