to leave the cell phone faster, manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi and Motorola have been betting on virtual RAM. It is a storage extension feature that uses the free part of the cell phone’s memory to expand the RAM, thus helping the smartphone’s performance during the use of heavier applications. Despite being quite useful, not all models on the market have the function, but it is possible to find it both in premium lines (such as the Galaxy S23) and in intermediaries (such as the recently announced Redmi Note 12 models).
In the following lines, learn how to activate Virtual RAM, also known as RAM Plus, on Galaxy S23 Ultra and Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G models. It is worth mentioning that some models of Samsung’s A and M lines also have this feature, as well as premium cell phones from Xiaomi and Motorola.

How to Activate the RAM Plus Function on Samsung Cell Phones
Step 1. Access the phone’s Settings menu and scroll down until you reach Device and Battery Assistance.
step 2. Tap Memory to access the Virtual RAM options. On Samsung cell phones, it is identified as RAM Plus and, when tapping on the option, the menu for activating the feature will appear.
Step 3. Choice of the amount of internal storage that will be transformed into RAM. On the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the available options vary between 2GB, 4GB, 6GB and 8GB, but this amount may be less on other models. When choosing one of them, the device will ask to be restarted and then the feature will be active.
How to Enable Virtual RAM on Xiaomi Phones
Step 1. On the Redmi Note 12 Pro, the RAM settings are a little more hidden than on the Xiaomi device. To start, access the Settings menu and scroll down to Additional settings.
step 2. Then go to Memory Extension and tap how much storage you want to occupy. In the case of the Redmi Note 12 Pro, the options vary between 2GB, 3GB and 5GB, but may be different on other phones. Just like on Samsung’s phone, when choosing one of the options, the phone will ask to restart.
In both devices, if the user wants to revert the action or disable the virtual RAM, just follow the step by step again and restart the device. None of the actions is permanent, but activation can only be done if the cell phone has enough storage to give up the space.
