actions suspended pending a works council (Wavre)

Dialogue seems to have been renewed between management and FGTB Chimie. The unions have decided to suspend its actions until the organization of a next works council.

The FGTB Chimie, which threatened to take action at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in Wavre and Rixensart, met with management on Wednesday. The unions have lodged a strike notice and are worried about employment in the group’s Belgian establishments, following management’s intentions to relocate certain activities. The management regretted that the FGTB no longer took part in works councils and committees for prevention and protection at work (CCPT). But the dialogue is renewed and the FGTB has suspended its actions until the rapid organization of a new works council in which it will participate.

Earlier this week, representatives of the FGTB met the Minister-President of the Walloon Region, Elio Di Rupo, and expressed their concerns to him. The Minister-President had encouraged them to make a gesture to get back around the table and therefore resume dialogue with management.

This is what the trade unionists are doing on Wednesday morning. “The management expressed its unease at our absence from the works council and the CCPT, we expressed our unease at the lack of responses from the management, which did not commit to employment in the short and long term. middle term. In the press, GSK guarantees investments and the continuation of activities on the Rixensart and Wavre sites, but that does not mean anything in terms of the number of jobs ”, indicates the FGTB principal delegate, Imdat Gunes.

It was agreed that a works council would be organized quickly, at the beginning of next week at the latest, to discuss in particular the relocation intentions of certain departments and other subjects of concern of the socialist union. The FGTB will participate this time and in the meantime, it has decided to suspend its actions. “We will participate to ask questions: if the answers are already all made and the cursor does not move, we will be reinforced in our fears and actions will be taken,” warns Imdat Gunes.
