ACTION OF THE CAT: Arrests of drunk and drugged drivers and dozens of established violations – Society – Bulgaria – NOVA News

A day after the start of the large-scale action of the Ministry of Internal Affairs against drunk and drugged drivers – arrests and dozens of established violations. The number of drivers caught after using alcohol and drugs is constantly growing.

However, during the inspections, a large number of drivers refuse to be tested for drug use. Thus, they only get away with a fine and revocation of the license. But they cannot go to court.

Nearly 20 traffic police teams change their positions every hour and a half. This is how they have been operating in Sofia since yesterday afternoon.

Every driver must be tested for the use of alcohol, and for drugs – at the discretion of the police.

In Sliven, they act in a different way – the policemen stop for inspection mainly at the entrances and exits of the city.

“Until now, there are quite a few sanctioned drivers. Three were found to be driving after consuming alcohol, we also found three to be incapacitated,” said chief inspector Iliyan Nikolov, head of the Traffic Police in Sliven.

Among the striking violations since the beginning of the action is a race from late last night on “Bulgaria” Boulevard in Sofia, after which three men were detected in a car with a police light in the compartment and two radio stations.

“During the inspection, it was established that a 40-year-old citizen was behind the wheel. With two companions aged 30 and 37”, said Commissioner Radoslav Nachev, deputy head of the Traffic Police in Sofia. “The case was immediately reported, and procedural investigative actions were carried out. The men are detained for a period of up to 24 hours”, explained Commissioner Nachev.

The number of violations across the country is constantly changing. Only two drugged drivers were detected in Sofia. However, seven others refused to be tested for drugs. Thus, they only get away with an administrative sanction.

“The law provides for a 24-month suspension from driving a motor vehicle and a fine of BGN 2,000,” explained Commissioner Nachev.

This avoids prosecution and possible conviction.
